Riverdale – Important Year-End Updates

Hi Riverdale –

A few more important reminders as we approach the end of the 2023-24 season!

ACTION REQUIRED: Year-End Banquet

If you are planning to attend the year-end banquet, you must complete the form by Thursday, March 28 so that we can properly plan for meals and transportation.

Like last year, we will be at Fantasy Farm on April 14. The banquet will include a three-course meal, a free drink + free soft drinks, juice, tea/coffee, and complimentary transportation from the Royal Canadian Curling Club to Fantasy Farm and from the banquet to Pegasus.

As a reminder – our AGM will take place at Fantasy Farm immediately following the banquet and before Pegasus.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Ryan directly at events@pridecurl.ca

IMPORTANT: Save the Date for our 40th Season Reception!

We have partnered with Sportsnet and the Grand Slam of Curling to host a 40th Season event at the Mattamy Centre on Thursday, April 11 before the 7:30 p.m.draw of the Grand Slam!

We are still confirming details, but this ticketed event will include early entry to the arena, drinks, entertainment and a celebration of curling! More information will be coming shortly.

Kick off our Playoff Weekend Thursday evening by celebrating 40 years of 2SLGBTQ+ Curling in Toronto!

IMPORTANT: Executive Nominations Now Open

The election nomination period for the 2024-25 executive is open now until April 3 at 11:59 p.m. Please complete the nomination form if you would like to put yourself forward for a position on the executive.

As Rebecca Purvis will not be returning to the executive next season, she has volunteered to be the election coordinator.

This year, in addition to requesting written statements from candidates no longer than 500 words, candidates up for election will have the option to provide a 2-minute speech at the AGM, if so desired. For statements to be included in the AGM package, they must be received no later than 5 p.m. on April 7.

As we did last season, fifths are allowed to vote provided they are documented on a team list and have paid their fifth fee before April 7.

Elections for executive positions will be held at our AGM. If only one person puts their name forward for any position, that position will be acclaimed at the AGM. If no one puts their name forward for a position, the new executive will find an appointee for the position or determine if the responsibilities can be shared among those on the new executive.

See our league constitution and our bylaws for more information on each position, or talk to any member of the Executive.

If you have any questions about the election, please reach out to Rebecca

IMPORTANT: Playoff Schedule

Please note that our Saturday, April 13 draw times for the playoffs are slightly different than normal.

The third game will take place at 2:15 p.m. instead of at 1:30 p.m. This is to allow for an ice scrape between the second and third game. All other game times remain the same.

More information on when you play during Playoffs will be available following the end of the regular season on April 7.

REMINDER: Update Team List – deadline April 7

Spare rules during playoffs are stricter than during the regular season – all spares must be registered as league members or fifth players. Please review the Team List and ensure it is accurate, and email riverdale@pridecurl.ca if you require changes.

REMINDER: No curling for two Sundays

This Sunday is the Royal’s Men’s Bonspiel, which means we do not have curling. The following Sunday is Easter, so the club will be closed.

The next game (the last of the regular season) is on April 7. Playoffs will take place on Saturday, April 13 and Sunday, April 14. Teams will be seeded for the playoffs based on their aggregate score, so please be sure to submit your results on the 7th so we can get the schedule published soon afterwards.

That’s all for now, folks! Hope you enjoy a restful break from curling and we’ll see you on April 7!

Edward
