Hi Riverdale –
A few administrative items and some reminders as we approach the end of the 2023-24 season! Please read carefully as there is important information on the year-end banquet, the broom raffle, playoff eligibility rules, our AGM, and practice ice opportunities.
Year-End Banquet Information:
While we had initially intended to hold the banquet/AGM at the 519, the space unfortunately isn’t large enough. We are returning to Fantasy Farm on April 14, located in the Don Valley on Pottery Road (just north of the Danforth off of Broadview). We will have a three-course meal, free drink + free soft drinks, juice, tea/coffee for every attendee. Complimentary transportation to Fantasy Farm from the club, and from Fantasy Farm to Pegasus, will be available.
To register, please complete the form here by Thursday March 28 so that we can plan properly for meals and transportation: https://forms.gle/Ycya9L62Qp2nSBRz6 Without registration, you will not be able to join the banquet.
As of now the banquet is only open to members. Once registration is closed, if there are any available spots, we will open it for guests.
Following the banquet and AGM, we will retire to Pegasus for our regular after party.
Winning Raffle Tickets for Brooms – Supporting PWA Friends For Life Bike Rally
Thank you to everyone who purchased raffle tickets yesterday to win one of two Hardline Curling brooms – with much thanks to Hardline Curling for providing not just one, but two, brooms at a discount for the raffle! The raffle raised over $1,800 for the Friends for Life Bike Rally, supporting community organizations like Toronto People with AIDS Foundation, AIDS Community Care Montreal, and Trellis HIV & Community Care. And that’s not all – thanks to Jeff Aschkinasi, this amount will be doubled – meaning $3,600 to fund community services, assistance with medication and basic necessities, and newcomer support.
Congratulations to Chris Gormick, one of the two winners who have already claimed their prize! The second winner is still outstanding – if not claimed by Friday at noon, it will go to the next of three additional backup numbers drawn!
If you have ticket 7834235 please send Laurence an email or message – hello@laurencelui.ca
In addition, there are still 7 Hardline Pride brush covers up for grabs with a donation of $50 or more – donate and send me a message – https://secure.pwatoronto.org/site/TR/BikeRally/General?px=1002645&pg=personal&fr_id=1090
There are several Riverdale Curling League members who are also participating in the Bike Rally – and perhaps you might be interested too! Feel free to reach out if you want to support others on their rides or if you want more information about joining us. Find out more at http://bikerally.org
Update Team List/Playoff Information:
As playoffs approach, please review the Team List and ensure that if there have been any changes to your team over the course of the past year they are reflected on the list.
Spare rules during playoffs are stricter than during the regular season – all spares must be registered as league members or fifth players. Spares on the regular season spare list who are not members or fifth players are not eligible to spare during playoffs.
If you need to add a new team member for playoffs, they must register at https://toronto.pridecurl.ca/required-for-riverdale-registration/ and pay the $100 fifth player fee. Please also email riverdale@pridecurl.ca to confirm which team the player is being added to.
Please inform the league of any changes to your team lineup and make any required payments by April 7 at the latest.
Playoffs will be April 13-14, with your division based on the aggregate standing following the last game of the regular season on April 7. The team in the top position in each division will have a bye to the semi-finals, while the remaining teams will play in the quarter finals. Finals will be held on April 14, followed by our year-end banquet and AGM.
Annual General Meeting Notice:
Please be advised that the annual Riverdale Annual General Meeting (AGM) will take place following our year-end banquet at Fantasy Farm on April 14.
Updated financials, any election information and an agenda will be shared by email with members no later than April 7 – one week before the AGM on April 14.
Executive Elections – Nomination Period Update:
The election nomination period for the 2024-25 executive will be opening shortly – an email will be sent with further information on nominations and election information later this month.
As a reminder, current positions on the executive are:
- President
- Vice-President
- Treasurer
- Secretary
- Drawmaster
- External Relations
- Member Relations
- Events Coordinator
- Webmaster
Elections for executive positions will be held at our AGM. If only one person puts their name forward for any position, that position will be acclaimed at the AGM. If no one puts their name forward for a position, the new executive will find an appointee for the position or determine if the responsibilities can be shared among those on the new executive.
See our league constitution and our bylaws for more information on the responsibilities of each position, or talk to any member of the Executive.
Practice Ice:
Once again we have some sheets available for practice ice on March 17 and April 7. Fill out the form online if you are interested! Requests must be submitted by the Friday before each date at noon.
That’s all for now – if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to a member of the executive!
