Riverdale Curling Update

Hi Riverdale,

A quick update email for everyone, following an executive meeting on January 5.

Continued Postponement of Curling

As you have likely heard, the provincial government has moved Ontario into a “modified Step 2” of the “Roadmap to Reopen” as of January 5, 2022. This means that indoor sports recreational facilities (including curling clubs) will be closed for at least three weeks (until January 26, 2022). There is currently no way to know if the order will be extended beyond January 26, 2022.

In terms of a return to curling, the executive will continue to monitor the situation and set a return date when government regulation and the curling club allow us. We will also share any necessary conditions for returning at that time. Curling will not resume before January 30, 2022 at the earliest.

Nationals Update

Toronto will be sending two teams to Saskatoon this March for the Canadian Gay Curling Championships.

Team Martin (Devon Martin, Anthony Pezzetti, Steph Johns and Philippe Bélanger-Leroux) will represent Toronto as Toronto 1, and Team Francis (Bill Francis, Jeff Junke, Stephen Courteau and Gareth Watson) will be Toronto 2.

Please join us in wishing them good luck in Saskatoon!

Riverdale “Do It On The Ice” Bonspiel

We are still moving forward with plans for our bonspiel the weekend of March 4-6, provided we are able to hold one within public health guidelines. Registration is currently open for out of town teams here: https://toronto.gaycurl.ca/riverdale-do-it-on-the-ice/ – local registration will begin once we have more information on club reopening.

That’s all we have for now – as always, feel free to reach out to a member of the executive if you have any questions. Hope you are staying safe and healthy.
