Two leagues, one sheet of ice. The Riverdale Curling League, established in 1983, is the largest 2SLGBTQI+ curling league in the country—and, we think, the world. The Rotators Curling League, founded in 1962, is the country’s oldest. Between them they run from October to April at the Royal Canadian Curling Club, offering vibrant, recreational curling for every skill level, with a shared tradition of sportsmanship, camaraderie and friendly competition.
Riverdale — Sunday daytime
The largest gay curling league in the country, with recreational sections for all skill levels. The season runs October to April, varying a little with holidays and other events at the club.
- Four draws (game times) every Sunday—9:00 a.m., 11:15 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.—with each team playing once a week at a somewhat-randomly-assigned time.
- Entry is team-based. Registration runs over the summer and usually closes at the end of August, with fees paid in full in September.
- A full-season commitment—the season is not divided into halves. If you cannot finish the season, the league will help a new player join your team.
- Not on a team? Join the spare list to fill in for teams needing an alternate during the season.
Our Roots
The Rotators have been curling since 1962 and Riverdale since 1983 — between them, more than sixty years of our community having a place on the ice. What began as a foundational space has grown into a winter tradition that welcomes curlers of every background. From day one, both leagues have been about building teams, making friends and keeping the sport open to everyone.

Rotators — Wednesday nights
The oldest gay curling league in the country, playing Wednesday nights at 9:00 p.m. The season is two distinct 12-week sessions plus a final playoff week—25 weeks in all.
- Honouring its roots, the league rotates positions for every member across both sessions, so nobody is stuck throwing the same rocks all year.
- Registration is by individual entry, and teams are formed shortly before the first day of each session.
- Sign up for the first session, the second, or the whole season, depending on availability.

Whether you are a seasoned skip or have never stepped foot on an ice sheet, you will find a safe, supportive and fiercely fun community in either league. We build teams, foster respect, and celebrate identity both on the ice and in the lounge—everyone belongs on our ice.
Club Environment & Sportsmanship
Both leagues slide, sweep and compete at the historic Royal Canadian Curling Club (“The Royals”), which has provided a 2SLGBTQI+-friendly atmosphere, a licensed lounge and a true community home for decades. The club keeps a selection of brooms for members to use, and sliders and grippers are available to buy. Sportsmanship, camaraderie and friendly competition are hallmarks of every game we play.
