Hi Riverdale –
A few administrative items and some reminders as we approach the end of the 2022-23 season! Please read carefully as there is important information on the year-end banquet, our AGM and playoffs.
Year-End Banquet Information:
Very important – this year, we will not be at the Courtyard Marriott!
For this year, we will be trying out Fantasy Farm, located in the Don Valley on Pottery Road (just north of the Danforth off of Broadview). We will have a three-course meal and a free drink for every attendee. Transportation to Fantasy Farm from the club, and from Fantasy Farm to Pegasus, will be available.
To register, please complete the form here by March 16 so that we can plan properly for meals and transportation: https://forms.gle/Ycya9L62Qp2nSBRz6 Without registration, you will not be able to join the banquet.
If you would like to bring a partner/guest to the banquet, please contact Ryan MacDonald directly at events@pridecurl.ca.
Not only will we be getting a better meal for a better cost, along with a drink, we will be supporting a 2SLGBTQ+ business here in Toronto.
Following the banquet and AGM, we will retire to Pegasus for our regular after party.
Update Team List/Playoff Information:
As playoffs approach, please review the Team List and ensure that if there have been any changes to your team over the course of the past year they are reflected on the list.
Spare rules during playoffs are stricter than during the regular season – all spares must be registered as league members or fifth players. Spares on the regular season spare list who are not members or fifth players are not eligible to spare during playoffs.
If you need to add a new team member for playoffs, they must register at https://toronto.pridecurl.ca/required-for-riverdale-registration/ and pay the $85 fifth player fee. Please also email riverdale@pridecurl.ca to confirm which team the player is being added to.
Playoffs will be April 1-2, with your division based on the aggregate standing following the last game of the regular season on March 19. The team in the top position in each division will have a bye to the semi-finals, while the remaining teams will play in the quarter finals. Finals will be held on April 2, followed by our year-end banquet and AGM.
Annual General Meeting Notice:
Please be advised that the annual Riverdale Annual General Meeting (AGM) will take place following our year-end banquet at Fantasy Farm on April 2.
Updated financials, any election information and an agenda will be shared by email with members no later than March 26 – one week before the AGM on April 2.
Executive Elections – Nomination Period Open:
The election nomination period for the 2023-24 executive is now open, and will close at 11:59 p.m. on March 19. The Election Coordinator for this year will be Darren Sutherland.
We are asking that, rather than speeches at the AGM, candidates submit short written statements (no more than 500 words) about why they are running for a position. This is not mandatory, but will help introduce candidates to the membership in advance of any vote. These statements are due to the election coordinator by the close of the nomination period (March 19) so that they can be included in the AGM package that will be sent out on March 26.
If you are interested in joining the executive, you can self-nominate using this form:
As a reminder, current positions on the executive are:
- President
- Vice-President
- Treasurer
- Secretary
- Drawmaster
- External Relations
- Member Relations
- Events Coordinator
- Webmaster
Elections for executive positions will be held at our AGM. If only one person puts their name forward for any position, that position will be acclaimed at the AGM. If no one puts their name forward for a position, the new executive will find an appointee for the position or determine if the responsibilities can be shared among those on the new executive.
See our league constitution and our bylaws for more information on the responsibilities of each position, or talk to any member of the Executive.
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to a member of the executive or directly to Darren Sutherland in his role as Election Coordinator.
Code of Conduct Feedback:
As you may recall, in November we shared an early draft of a Code of Conduct.
The document was drafted as a means to affirm that Riverdale is a safe space where harassment will not be tolerated and to underline our existing objectives as laid out in the league constitution – to promote curling, provide a positive LGBTQ+ environment for members, friends and family in a socially safe and non-discriminatory atmosphere, and uphold the values of respect, understanding, equality, honesty, trustworthiness, commitment and cooperation.
We asked for feedback on the draft, and we received responses from many members. We are working to complete a new draft based on this feedback, and we will share as soon as it’s ready for review.
Riverdale Bonspiel Update!
Good luck to the teams in the Riverdale bonspiel this weekend!
If you’re not on a team, you’re still welcome to attend the events! You can find all the information on our website: https://toronto.pridecurl.ca/dioti-events/
Looking forward to seeing everyone on the ice, or in their Dynasty Opulence Eleganza on Saturday night.
That’s all for now – if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to a member of the executive!
