Hi Riverdale –
A belated welcome back to curling in 2023! We’re looking forward to a great second half of the season! Just a few reminders as we get into the year.
Round 3 and Playoffs are Fast Approaching
It might seem like the first weekend of April is still far away, but between no curling for ice maintenance on Family Day Weekend, the Riverdale bonspiel the first weekend of March, and the Royals Men’s bonspiel on the last weekend of March, we only have 6 regular Sundays before playoffs. That’s two more games in Round 2 and four more games in Round 3. You can see the season calendar here: https://toronto.pridecurl.ca/members/Riverdale_Calendar.pdf
Round 3 starts on February 12 and will only be four games. As always, bye requests are not guaranteed. Not all teams will have a bye during the final round, to ensure equal opportunity for the top teams in each division to earn a bye into the semifinals during playoffs. If you would like to request a bye, you can use the form on our website: https://toronto.pridecurl.ca/request-a-bye/
As a reminder, as teams make changes to their members, please let the executive know to update the official Team List. At the end of the season, only members who are listed on the Team List and confirmed to have paid will be able to play in playoffs, including as spares. Riverdale Team List
Use our Spare List
As we journey into the depths of winter and more of our members start looking at flights to warmer destinations than Queen and Broadview on a cold February morning, just a reminder that we have a very extensive spare list for this season on our website: Riverdale Spare List
And while the government’s COVID rules have been significantly relaxed, if you are sick in any way you should stay home and avoid passing your illness on to other members. While it may not necessarily be COVID, not everyone loves being filled with phlegm and hacking up a lung, or worse, for any reason.
Harcourt Cup
If you haven’t noticed, the Harcourt Cup is now on display in the Royal’s trophy case! Thank you to the Royals for paying the cost of the trophy as part of our collective honouring of our long-time member, Scott Harcourt.
The Harcourt Cup will be awarded to the team with the most overall points in the season – our aggregate winner. This is our way of recognizing our top-ranked teams, while the cash prizes are reserved for the winners and runners-up of the divisional playoffs.
You can see the current overall points standings on our website: https://toronto.pridecurl.ca/standings/
Royals Bathroom Policy
We would also like to extend our thanks to the Royals for stating their firm position recognizing that everyone should be able to use the bathroom that matches our gender identity and standing clearly against transphobia.
The club’s clear, principled statement is one of the many reasons that Riverdale is happy to be a part of the Royals community.
Riverdale Bonspiel Update
The Riverdale Bonspiel is just 6 weeks away! We’re very excited to be welcoming so many people from out of town, and our own members, to the Royals for what promises to be an amazing weekend.
Even if you are not on a team, you are welcome to come down and spend some time during the weekend at the club. The more the merrier!

That’s all for now, folks! If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to an executive member or email the league at riverdale@pridecurl.ca.
